We have been getting a lot of queries regarding courses in addition to those prescribed by the STCW 95. A lot of my friends are also looking to get shore jobs for personal reasons. We strongly feel that going for degrees in business, logistics, law or operations will always add value to your profile and also vastly improve your employment prospects. In case you would like to discuss this further, do not hesitate to mail us and we will be glad to be of any help. The following courses/degrees come to mind, we will keep adding to the list. Also click on the maritime links page for websites recommended by the British Council for further studies in the U.K. Download a home-made brochure for courses in addition to the ones listed below. In case you are targeting U.K. for your post-grad studies I have found this website most useful: http://www.prospects.ac.uk |

Also included is a refresher course in mathematics, economics, statistics and electronic databases. They end the following July on completion of two electives and a Business Research Project, or alternatively, five electives. I have completed my MSc in shipping trade and finance and I am currently persuing a PhD in finance. This course comes highly recommended for all master mariners and the prospects after this course are very bright. You could also choose Energy or Logistics as your subjects. It is the best course of its type in the world and you will have the honour to be personally taught and mentored by Prof. Costas Grammenos who is a legend in the maritime finance field.
